Dividends collected (S$ 40) seems like a small amount but…
I started a small portfolio in 2018 for my Wife. March 2018 to be exact. The goal is to invest the remaining cash in our combine household expenditure account. There is some surplus most months and I thought it will be better investing the “savings”.
When the first dividend was distributed into her account, I told her that she has received S$ 43.60 from Starhill Global REIT.
She literally gave me this huh look:
And her response was, “I can’t even buy a pair of shoes.”
That’s her classic response and how she measures a decent return from any investment.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.
Dividends collected (S$ 40) seems like a small amount but...
I started to keep quiet each time I bought shares. And whenever there was dividends deposited into her account, I kept quiet as well.
Recently, I informed her that she has collected $1,100 worth of dividends every since she started investing in March 2018.
Before she said anything, I murmured, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
There is huge amount of wisdom in these lines. I hope one day she will appreciate - delay gratification.
